About Us

Rick and Teresa Wyly have been happily married since 1983.  After long careers for Teresa in education and Rick as a general contractor and construction consultant, they have decided to join together in business as well.  Wyly Cost LLC was originally founded as Wyly Estimating, LLC on August 27, 2016.  The company changed its name to Wyly Cost LLC on February 24, 2019.  On April 2, 2020, Wyly Cost LLC changed the ownership from fully owned by Rick to 51% owned by Teresa and 49% owned by Rick.  Both will play an integral part in the operations of the company.  Teresa will be managing the administrative, financial, and marketing aspects of the company.  Rick manages the operations of the company's services.  Their favorite pastimes are spending time with their family (three children, two sons-in-law, and five grandchildren) and traveling. Recently they have enjoyed vacations in Italy, Scotland, Ireland, and Hawaii. For 2024, Greece is the word. 

Staff: Until 2022, Wyly Cost operated with no staff other than Rick and Teresa  Wyly. It was their goal to be a small, specialty niche company that was the "best of the best" in the cost estimating world. Word of mouth of happy, satisfied clients, however, is the BEST marketing methodology, and plans changed. Wyly Cost now utilizes a staff of four cost estimators to assist with the workload. All of these cost estimators were personally trained and mentored in the past by Rick. No estimates are submitted without Rick's personal Quality Control Review, and he stands behind the validity of every estimate. Rick continues to handle the larger and higher-profile projects personally and delegates as needed. 

Teresa Wyly, Principal, Chief Executive Officer:  Teresa graduated from the University of North Texas in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.  Teresa worked in Keller ISD from 1981 until her retirement in 2019.  During that long career, she did take a temporary sabbatical to be the Office Administrator and Bookkeeper for Rick's general contracting firm, which allowed her to develop skills that are a great asset for Wyly Cost.  Teresa is a seasoned pro with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable and operating accounting software.  She is responsible for the day-to-day Office Administrative needs of the company. 

Rick Wyly, Principal, Chief Operating Officer:  Rick graduated from the Texas A&M University College of Architecture on Saturday, August 14, 1982, and started work in his non-stop construction career on Monday, August 16, 1982, after taking one day off to rest and relax. Rick already had one year of hands-on construction experience before graduation.

Rick has now compiled 43 consecutive years of construction experience...32 as a commercial general contractor and 10 as a construction consultant, along with 1 year as a construction laborer at the beginning of his career.  His years as a GC included dual roles of project management AND cost estimating, which is unique in the industry. He has personally constructed over two hundred buildings in his career as a commercial construction project manager. In addition to the projects he has personally built, he has estimated an unknown quantity of thousands of cost estimates during his career, as well as mentored and trained dozens of cost estimators. Being a project manager makes you a better estimator, and being an estimator makes you a better project manager. He also has years of experience as a hard bid GC as well as a design/build GC.  Out of his 43 years of experience, 15+ years include hard-core Federal Government experience for projects involving the USACE, NAVFAC, ANG, USCG, GSA, and NPS. 

Rick is a Certified Professional Estimator by the American Society of Professional Estimators and a Certified Value Methodology Associate by SAVE International.  In addition to cost estimating, Rick has a passion for Value Methodology (AKA Value Engineering).  Rick is currently VMA Certified with SAVE International and is in the final stages of achieving Certified Value Specialist (CVS) certification. 

Rick was awarded the 2023 Estimator of the Year Award by the American Society of Professional Estimators (an organization of approximately 1600 professional cost estimators) at the 2023 National Summit. Rick also was awarded the National Project of the Year Award by the American Society of Professional Estimators at the 2019 National Summit for his cost estimate completed for the Pentagon.  

He was a Guest Speaker at the 2023 ASPE National Summit, delivering two presentations. Additionally, he is authoring a course in Plumbing Cost Estimating for the ASPE Estimating Academy. 

Rick currently serves as the President Ex-Officio of the DFW Chapter of the American Society of Professional Estimators, President Ex-Officio of the DFW Chapter of SAVE International, and President Ex-Officio of the DFW Section of AACE International. Rick is also a member of the Society of American Military Engineers (S.A.M.E.). 

Rick, who has a long and extensive track record of happy clients in the architectural and engineering industries, and as a former contractor with 43 years of experience, can contribute depth and perception to discussions during design charrettes and VE workshops utilizing his paradigm of both field and office construction experience. He serves not only as a Senior Cost Estimator but also as a Construction Subject Matter Expert.
